Strong Anion Exchange Resin

Ion exchange resins with quaternary ammonium groups as a functional group and dissociate like strong alkalis such as NaOH and KOH, exhibit strong basicity, and can exchange anions such as Cl- ions and SO4- ions are called strong basic negative ion exchange resins. The functional groups of strongly basic anion exchange resins are strongly basic and therefore dissociate not only in acidic but also in alkaline solutions.

There are two types of strongly basic anion exchange resins with different basicities: Type I with trimethylammonium groups and Type II with dimethylethanolammonium groups.

Type I has the highest basicity and can strongly adsorb anions, so it is used to obtain high-purity demineralized water. Regeneration requires a large amount of regenerant because of its strong adsorption power. Since Type II has a lower basicity than Type I, the quality of the demineralized water obtained is inferior to that of Type I, but the amount of regenerant used can be reduced accordingly.

Porous Strong Anion Exchange Resin

The porous type has a porous matrix structure, and with the same degree of cross-linking, it is highly durable against swelling shrinkage. It is also effective for treatments that require high water quality, such as when silica removal to low concentrations is required. In pharmaceutical treatment, it is also effective when raw process stream contains a lot of organic matter and there is concern about organic pollution. DIAION PA316 is usually used for water treatment. DIAION PA308 is used for desalting and decolorizing sugar solutions. High porous type-I DIAION HPA25 is a highly porous resin with a higher degree of cross-linking than porous type, and is used for better mass transfers.

Gel Type Strong Anion Exchange Resin

Gel type polymeric ion exchange resins possess reversible swelling and shrinkage. DIAION SA10A and DIAION SA12A are used for Type I, and DIAION SA20A for Type II.

Low-Odor, Low-Leachable Anion Exchange Resin

Low-odor, low-leachable anion exchange resin, with better control on leachables from the resins to be used for pharmaceuticals to be used through intravenous applications, drinking water production, sugar solution refining etc.
